GULU, NORTHERN UGANDA – April 2026: Rupiny FM, in partnership with Wings of Care, has reached out to more than 200 learners in Northern Uganda with menstrual hygiene education aimed at promoting dignity, wellbeing and continued access to education for school-going children.
The campaign, conducted at St. Theresa Secondary School in Omoro District and Pece Senior Secondary School in Gulu City, focused on creating awareness about menstrual hygiene management and encouraging open, informed conversations about menstrual health among learners and communities.
Through educational sessions, community engagement and radio programming, learners were equipped with knowledge on menstrual hygiene practices and the importance of maintaining good health and wellbeing during menstruation. The initiative also brought together educators, community stakeholders and partners to encourage greater community support for girls and promote a more supportive environment in which menstrual health can be discussed without stigma.
Breaking the Silence Around Menstrual Health.
Limited access to menstrual hygiene information and resources continues to affect the wellbeing and educational experience of many girls, particularly in underserved communities. The Wings of Care campaign sought to address this challenge by providing learners with accurate information while encouraging boys, teachers and the wider community to become part of the conversation. More than 200 learners benefited directly from the campaign, with girls receiving particular attention on menstrual hygiene management while boys were also engaged to promote understanding and support for their female peers. Beyond the schools, Rupiny FM used its radio platform and digital channels to amplify the campaign’s messages, extending the conversation to the wider community and encouraging people to support initiatives that promote menstrual health and girls’ education.
Creating
Lasting Community Impact.
The partnership between Rupiny FM and Wings of Care demonstrates the role that media can play beyond information dissemination by using its platforms to mobilise communities and support solutions to social challenges. By combining community-based engagement with the reach of radio and digital media, the campaign strengthened awareness of menstrual hygiene management while contributing to efforts to create safer, healthier and more inclusive learning environments. The initiative reinforces Vision Group’s commitment to improving lives through responsible journalism, community engagement and strategic partnerships that create meaningful social impact. The campaign contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 5 – Gender Equality and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
